Everything in your closet is trendy, just give it some time

The fashion world contains multiple different little societies, based on music genres, subcultures, religions, etc., so calling some item of clothing "unfashionable" doesn't really make sense, because definitely in some areas, it is considered the coolest thing in the world. But on the other hand, we all obviously see that one mainstream of brands, fashion, and trends, that is the most classic and famous, because of being popularized by celebrities. And in this specific branch of fashion, we see the most comebacks. Who would have thought that flared jeans would ever be trendy again?

Denim

The denim fabric is not a trend, because we've seen it on the streets for ages and it wasn't ever unfashionable, even for a second. However, since the XVIII century, people have invented various uses for it, from which the most popular is of course the leg-wear. It all started in the labour market, where people needed clothes made from a strong, yet comfortable fabric, to work effectively at mines or farms. Because of their suspenders holding the whole pants, jean overalls became the perfect workwear solution,  but as we can see, now it's a classic pant type to wear on a daily basis.

In 1817, American sailors serving in the US Navy were the first to accept the flare cut, due to the simplest factor; practicality. The wide cuffs were much easier to roll up the knee, to prevent the fabric from getting wet while scrubbing the deck or simply stepping into the water. The bell-bottom cut has become a fashion staple of the '60s and '70s after music creators like Elvis Presley or the ABBA band had worn them numerously. After its biggest prime era, they've become a little "passe", but nowadays, 50 years later, there's been a huge comeback. There aren't many clothing stores that do not offer ones by now.

Jackets

Another example worth mentioning is the boomerang-like comeback of the bomber cut. Again, it's the practicality that made it a thing at first. The bomber jackets were perfectly suitable for pilots as a work garment. Oversized cuts were pioneering in the 80s, that's why we remember so many iconic outfits of teenagers stealing jumpers, sweaters or jackets from their dads.

Summing up, it's better to be careful when doing a massive wardrobe cleaning, because you never know how much of a value your clothes will have in 20 years, for your children.
